About this standard

Mōteatea are traditional songs of various themes generally sung in chant form. This unit standard focuses on the knowledge and essential skills of mōteatea, and the ability to perform mōteatea.

People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of the pūtake and tikanga of mōteatea, and perform mōteatea.

Level 4 assessment requires the student to perform items from memory demonstrating competency. It is also expected that Level 4 assessments  can be performed in a public setting. 
Students from Skill New Zealand Rangatahi Maia programmes of Manaakitanga Aotearoa Trust in Rotorua, Pounamu Māori Performing Arts in Auckland and students from Western Heights High School are featured in this video.
