Candidates will be required to write paragraph-length answers.
Candidates will be provided with a resource booklet containing a variety of historical sources, primary and secondary.
The context for the 2023 examination will be an idea, concept, or design that changed twentieth-century society in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Candidates will be required to write an essay on ONE historical event they have studied, using a conventional essay format.
Candidates will be expected to describe a limited number of causes OR consequences related to their chosen event.
There is no prescribed content.
Candidates are encouraged to write a concise response of no more than 550–600 words (3–4 pages). Assessment will be based on the quality of the response rather than its length.
