Information relating to both achievement standards
For each standard, the passage of Latin text will be divided into paragraphs.
A title and an introduction to the passage will be given in English. Except for proper nouns, lower case will be used throughout the Latin passage.
A resource booklet containing a glossary in alphabetical order of all the words used in the Latin passage for each standard will be provided. The principal parts of all irregular verbs and all third conjugation verbs, the nominative and genitive singular of all third declension nouns and all irregular nouns, will be given in full. Personal pronouns will be glossed in the following way:
ego | I |
tu | you |
nos | we |
vos | you |
se | himself, herself, itself, themselves |
hic, haec, hoc | this, he, she, it |
ille, illa, illud | that, he, she, it |
ipse, ipsa, ipsum | himself, herself, itself, themselves |
is, ea, id | he, she, it, that |
iste, ista, istud | that |
The passage of Latin text for each standard will be narrative prose of approximately 130–150 words. It will be based on an authentic Latin text that will be modified appropriately for Curriculum Levels 5 and 6. For further explanation of linguistic and cultural content at these levels, refer to the Teaching and Learning Guide for Latin.
The assessment will be available to candidates in paper or digital format. Further information about digital external assessments can be found on the Digital Assessment: NCEA Online page.
