Information relating to both achievement standards
The examination will require responses written in English, te reo Māori, and / or Samoan to a variety of written and spoken Samoan texts on familiar matters.
Instructions will be in English, and questions will be in Samoan and English.
Texts will relate to information, ideas, and opinions on topics of personal and / or community interest, for example:
- community and relationships – friends, neighbours, teams, school, church
- events and special occasions – social, cultural or historical
- sports and leisure
- fa’asāmoa – cultural practices.
As they develop fluency and accuracy, learners can benefit from reading texts where macrons and glottal stops are consistently used. Level 2 Samoan will use macrons and glottal stops as appropriate for learners of Gagana Sāmoa.
For further guidance on language and contexts, see:
- Taʻiala mo le Gagana Sāmoa: The Gagana Sāmoa Guidelines, [A’oa’oina Atu ’o Uiga Matauina ’o le Gagana Sāmoa, (pp. 11–15) and, Vāega 7 (Level 7) (pp. 87–91)].
The assessment will be available to candidates in paper or digital format. Further information about digital external assessments can be found on the Digital Assessment: NCEA Online page.
