Information relating to both achievement standards

The assessment will be available to candidates in paper or digital format. Further information about digital external assessments can be found on the Digital Assessment: NCEA Online page.

Candidates will be required to give an account of relevant Social Studies concepts for each standard. The key concepts for Social Studies are provided in the Senior Social Studies Teaching and Learning Guide.

Candidates will also be required to give an account of relevant points of view, values, and perspectives (a range, diverse) for each standard.

Information in planning spaces will not be marked.

Candidates will be provided with a resource booklet and will be expected to analyse the resources, using skills learnt during their Social Studies course.

The context provided will be conflict(s) arising in regard to the advertising industry.

Describe how cultural conflict(s) can be addressed

Candidates will be required to write an essay or a series of paragraphs.

Candidates will be expected to use knowledge, understanding, and skills learnt during their Social Studies course.

Candidates are encouraged to write a concise response of no more than 750–800 words (4–5 pages). Assessment will be based on the quality of the response rather than its length.

Candidates will need to demonstrate understanding of the overall intent of the standard rather than all the specifics of the explanatory notes.

The society used by candidates must be real.
