91618: Undertake development and implementation of a green manufacturing process

Updated November 2015. This document has been updated in its entirety to address new issues that have arisen from moderation.

General Notes

The technological outcome itself does not need to be a ‘green’ product or a whole product (Explanatory Note 5).

The primary focus for this standard is to develop the green manufacturing process and quality control procedures. The manufacturing process will need to be run more than once, in order to evaluate and refine the process.

The selection, implementation and refining of the green manufacturing process should reflect good design judgement (see Explanatory Note 4 for good design judgement).

The green manufacturing process should be tailored to the constraints and opportunities of the manufacturing location. Students will discuss the success of their outcome in meeting green considerations.

Merit and Excellence

Students at Merit would be monitoring the manufacturing process and refining it, as required, to better suit the nature of the outcome and the success in meeting green considerations.

For Excellence, the level of success has to be justified. Students also need to discuss how and why quality management procedures have been important in changing manufacturing practices to better support green considerations.
