Summary of review and consultation process
At a scoping meeting held in June 2002, with representatives of providers, moderators, Red Cross, Fire Service, Occupational Safety and Health, New Zealand Ambulance Education Council Inc, New Zealand Resuscitation Council, and NZQA regarding the review the core health unit standards it was decided that these should be reviewed in three stages. The first stage of the review would consider the health care unit standards (6127, 6413-6417, 6420-6426); the second stage review would consider the anatomy and physiology unit standards (6418, 6419, 12699-12732, 14785, 14786) and the final stage review would consider the three first aid unit standards (6400-6402).
This report covers the review of the health care unit standards.
Main changes resulting from the review
The review process has resulted in the following changes to the unit standards.
· Change of titles as indicated in the table below
· A decrease in the number of credits for unit standard 6415
· Deletion of and/or changes to special notes to update compliance information
· Elimination of some range statements and their incorporation into the text where it was felt they contained essential assessment information
· Unit standard 6423, was designated as review category D and new unit standard 20100 is suggested as the most appropriate alternative
· Unit standards 6424 and 6426 have also been designated as review category D as the content of 6424 could be covered in other unit standards and there has been minimal usage of 6426
· Substantial modifications to the wording of some unit standards to assist in clarifying the outcomes required.
Unit standards categorised as category D expire at the end of December 2005.
Unit standards 6423, 6424, and 6426 have been designated as Category D.
