Revision of Occupational Health and Safety qualification

National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Workplace Safety) (Level 3) [Ref: 0801]

The New Zealand Industry Training Organisation has revised the above qualification that was registered in January 2001.

Date new version published                        April 2004

Rationale for the revision

Changes to this qualification have resulted from the need to broaden the qualification to include access for road transport, engineering and petrochemical pipeline work.  This has affected both the compulsory and elective sections to give greater flexibility.

The changes were made in consultation with Electricity Supply Industry Training Organisation, Gas and Petrochemical Industry Training Organisation (now NZ Extractive Industries Training Organisation), NZ Road Transport and Logistics Industry Training Organisation, Competenz, Forest Industries Training, NZ Employers Federation, the Combined Trade Unions, and the Department of Labour.  A draft qualification was circulated for comment and feedback.

A new qualification is currently under development that provides the basic skills required for health and safety in the workplace, it is intended that it will lead to this qualification.
