Revision of Meat Processing qualification
National Certificate in Meat Processing (Introductory) [Ref: 0932]
The New Zealand Industry Training Organisation has revised the above qualification that was registered in February 2002.

The review of this qualification is planned to take place in 2008
Reason for the revision
This revision has resulted from a review of the meat processing unit standards and the development of some new unit standards. The qualification has also been amended to reflect the requirement for wider choice to cater for new industries entering the meat processing sector.
Main changes resulting from the revision
· Unit standard 2504 was moved from the compulsory section to the elective section of the qualification.
· Unit standard 17593 from the domain Occupational Health and Safety was added to the compulsory section.
· Unit standards 1304 and 9680 from the domain Interpersonal Communications, 18766 from Meat Industry Generic, and 167 and 168 from Food Safety were added to the elective section.
· The domains Food Production - Poultry Products, Meat Processing - Petfood, and Smallgoods were added to the elective section.
· The minimum credit total for the qualification increased from 40 to 45.
· Unit standard 16457 was replaced with unit standards 20225 and 20231.
Transition
People currently working towards version 1 of this qualification may complete that version or transfer their results to version 2. The last date for award of version 1 is 31 December 2005.
Both versions of this qualification will be recognised by the New Zealand Industry Training Organisation.
This qualification contains unit standards that replace earlier unit standards. For the purposes of this qualification people who have gained credit for the expiring unit standards will be exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement unit standard.
