Revision of Plastics Processing Technology qualification

National Certificate in Plastics Processing Technology (Level 4) with strands in Injection Moulding, Extrusion, Blow Moulding, Thermoforming, Blown Film Extrusion, Injection Stretch Blow Moulding Single Stage, Injection Stretch Blow Moulding Two Stage, and Rotational Moulding [Ref: 0396]

The Plastics and Materials Processing Industry Training Organisation has revised the qualification listed above that was last registered in October 2002.

Date new version published                                                                      August 2004

Reason for the revision

Feedback from industry has indicated the impracticality of delivering supplementary science and mathematics skills as part of this qualification.  These were intended to prepare trainees for entry to further, higher level qualifications. However, not all trainees move on to undertaking these qualifications, and the addition of these requirements was found to be impractical.

Main changes resulting from the revision

The core elective section, which required 15 credits from specified domains, has been removed and the total credits required for the qualification reduced accordingly.  The total credit requirements are now approximately the same as they were in versions 1-3 of the qualification.

Transition

As nobody has commenced training towards version 4 of the qualification, no transition arrangements are necessary.  For further information, please contact:
