Revision of Printing qualification

 

National Certificate in Printing (Production Support) (Level 2) with strands in Carton Cut and Crease, Carton Forme Making, Finishing (Carton), Sheet-fed Offset, Reel-fed Printing, Screen Printing, and Formed Shapes (Letterpress/Dry Offset) [Ref: 0593]

 

The Printing & Allied Industries Training Council has revised the qualification listed above that was registered in June 2002.

Reason for the revision

 

This qualification was revised following a review of the Printing – Reel-fed unit standards.

 

It will continue to be revised as unit standards in each of the strands are reviewed and updated over the next two years.

 

Main changes resulting from the revision

 

Changes were made to the Reel-fed Printing strand only.

·               Unit standard 16510 was replaced with unit standard 20667 resulting in the following changes to the Reel-fed Printing strand.  The:

·               Credit total increased from 58 or 60 credits to 64 or 66 credits;

·               Strand compulsory level 2 credits decreased from 11 to 5 credits;

·               Strand compulsory level 3 credits increased from 0 to 12 credits.

 

This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards.  For the purposes of this qualification people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards.

Transition

 

All new trainees will be enrolled in training programmes leading to version 7 of the qualification.  People currently enrolled in training programmes leading to an earlier version may either complete that version, or transfer to version 7 under the guidance of the Printing & Allied Industries Training Council.

 

It is anticipated that no existing candidates are disadvantaged by these transition arrangements.
