The Sports, Fitness and Recreation Industry Training Organisation (Sfrito) in conjunction with the Aviation, Tourism and Travel Training Organisation (ATTTO) have completed the review of the unit standards listed above that were registered in October 1993.

Summary of review and consultation process
Both Sfrito and ATTTO initiated this review in consultation with stakeholders from April 2001 until October 2003. Stakeholders included industry organisations, assessors, and workplace and provider representatives. The review process has included focus group meetings and consultation by mail with assessors, workplaces, industry bodies, and providers from around the country. As a result the unit standards have been restructured and updated to reflect current industry practices and requirements.
Main changes resulting from the review
The review process has resulted in the following changes to the unit standards.
· The standard setting responsibility for the sea kayaking unit standards has moved from the Sports, Fitness and Recreation Industry Training Organisation (Sfrito) to the Aviation, Tourism and Travel Training Organisation (ATTTO).
· Unit standards 490 and 491 have been designated category D because they are no longer fit for purpose.
· Unit standard 488 has been replaced by unit standard 20128.
· The domain for unit standard 489 has changed from Canoeing - Kayaking to Adventure Tourism, and all new unit standards are registered in the Adventure Tourism domain.
· The AMAP reference for sea kayaking unit standards has changed from 0102 to 0078.
· Unit standards have been completely either written or rewritten (where applicable) to better reflect actual industry practices, requirements, and legislation that affect the outdoors.
· There have been changes to titles and credits, as indicated in the table below.
Unit standards categorised as category C or D expire at the end of December 2006.

Unit standard 498 has been transferred from AMAP 0102 to AMAP 0078. Both AMAPs have been updated to reflect the outcome of this review, the change of standard-setting responsibility, and the reclassification of the canoeing - kayaking unit standards.
