Summary of review and consultation process
Nine Civil Defence unit standards were reviewed and approved by the LGITO Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) Advisory Group. The major reason for the review was to update the standards following the repeal of the Civil Defence Act 1983, which was replaced with the Civil Defence Emergency Management Act 2002.
These legislative changes created new industry terminology and requirements. The unit standard content was amended to reflect these changes. The new industry terminology has also been reflected in title changes to the nine reviewed unit standards.
The LGITO Civil Defence Emergency Management Advisory Group met three times to approve the unit standard reviews. The Civil Defence Emergency Management Advisory Group is made up of representatives from local, regional, rural and urban CDEM organisations, and a private training establishment working in the industry. Comment on the reviewed unit standards was sought from the industry.
Main changes resulting from the review
· All titles changed to reflect industry terminology.
· Special Note references to legislation updated in all unit standards.
· Unit standard 7315 replaced with unit standard 20853.
· Unit standard 7316 replaced with unit standard 20854.
· Range statements and special notes have been amended to reflect the changed content.
· Adjustments made to improve and clarify elements and performance criteria.
Unit standards categorised as category C expire at the end of December 2006.
