The New Zealand Horticulture Industry Training Organisation (NZHITO) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above that were registered in November 1997.

Summary of review and consultation process

 

The Advisory Group for the Nursery Production sector of the horticulture industry, in conjunction with Providers and other stakeholders, reviewed all unit standards in the Nursery Production domain.  The review considered feedback received from employers and assessors; the currency of the unit standards and their suitability for existing and proposed qualifications; and the technical accuracy and appropriateness of their content.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

The review process resulted in the following changes to the unit standards.

 

Review of the existing 17 nursery production unit standards.

·        This included updating special notes to include relevant legislation and licensing requirements; revising elements, performance criteria and range statements to ensure they were technically correct and up to date; and increasing credit values to more accurately reflect the time taken for delivery, learning and assessment.

 

Development of five new unit standards 20567-20571

·        Where gaps in skills and/or knowledge in the existing Nursery Production unit standards have been identified.

 

Development of one new plant identification unit standard 20574

·        The unit standard replaced sector specific unit standards in the Floriculture, Fruit Production, Nursery Production, and Vegetable Production domains.

 

Development of new unit standard 20572

·        Unit standard 20572 was registered in the Nursery Production domain.  It was a replacement for unit standard 819 in the Production Horticulture domain.

 

Unit standards categorised as category C expire at the end of December 2006.
