Review of Extractive Industries qualification
Review of National Certificate in Extractive Industries (Operations) with strands in Surface Extraction, and Underground Extraction [Ref: 0248]
The Extractive Industries Training Organisation has completed the review of the qualification above that was last registered in January 2001 following its first review.

The review of this qualification was carried out during late 2002 and early 2003 by
Ray Urquhart representing NZEP and MU,
Mark Pizey of CANZ,
John Walrond of OSH, and
George Kelcher IOQ.
The EXITO Board (Industry Association Representatives) endorsed the review.
Main changes resulting from the review
The credit total in the elective sections have been changed, domain selections have been changed, and one new unit standard has been added. The purpose statement has also been expanded to include a rationale for elective requirements in the qualification. The qualification has been issued as version 5.
Changes to structure and content
· Core Elective requirements from anywhere on the NQF decreased from 91 to 50 credits.
· Surface Strand Elective requirements increased from 50 to 91 credits and limited to the domains of Civil Plant Operation and Surface Extraction.
· The Underground Extraction Strand Elective requirements increased from 24 to 65 credits and limited to the Underground Extraction domain.
· Unit standard 9707 added to the Communication Skills Core Elective selection.
· Unit standards 3789 and 4213 removed from Core Elective one and the remaining unit standard, 17695, moved to the Core Compulsory section.
Transition
People currently working towards version 4 of this qualification may either complete the requirements for that version or transfer their results to this version of the qualification. The last date for people to complete version 4 is 31 December 2007.
