Revision of Airport Operations qualification
National Certificate in Airport Operations with strands in Airport Customer Service, Airport Maintenance, and Airport Safety [Ref: 0339]
The Aviation, Tourism and Travel Training Organisation has revised the above qualification that was registered in July 2000.
Date new version published January 2004
The review of this qualification is planned to take place in 2005.
Rationale for the revision
This qualification was revised as a result of feedback from assessors and moderators on the need to provide greater flexibility in the qualification to reflect new job roles being carried out within the sector. Several unit standards from the Airport Maintenancestrand compulsory section were moved to a new strand elective section, as they are not part of the compulsory strand requirements. There was a need for additional units in the elective section of the strand to allow greater flexibility to meet the new job role requirements.
Main changes resulting from the revision
Changes to structure and content
· The Airport Maintenancestrand was split into compulsory and elective sections.
· Unit standards 11666, 11667, 11668, and 11669 were added to the Airport Maintenancestrand elective section.
· Unit standards 8878, 8879, 17349, 17351, 17352, and 17353 were moved from the Airport Maintenancestrand compulsory section to the elective section.

People part way through a programme leading to the award of version 3 of the National Certificate in Airport Operations (Airport Maintenance) may either complete the requirements of that version by or transfer to version 4. All versions of this qualification will be recognised by the Aviation, Tourism and Travel Training Organisation.
