Review of Meat Processing qualification

National Certificate in Meat Processing (Smallgoods) (Level 2) with an optional strand in Forklift Operations [Ref: 0956]

The New Zealand Industry Training Organisation has completed the review of the qualifications listed above that were registered in March 2002.

Date new versions published                        June 2004

This qualification has been reviewed because of the review of the meat processing unit standards, the development of new meat processing unit standards, and the need to meet the requirements of new companies that have decided to undertake NQF qualifications.

A series of consultation meetings with representatives of both large and small companies that process meat products has resulted in a major change to the qualification title to reflect the broader sector role responsibilities, new strands being added to reflect the needs of the new participating companies and the existing optional strand being removed.

The qualification has been designed to recognise both the core and specialist knowledge and skills required to work safely and productively in a range of functions within the smallgoods sector of the meat processing industry.
