The ElectroTechnology Industry Training Organisation has completed the revision of the unit standards listed above that were registered in November 1997.

Date new versions published                        March 2004

New comments by date                        December 2007

Expiry date of new versions of the unit standards                        December 2008

Reasons for the revision

The unit standards listed above were revised as part of a reorganisation of all unit standards in the lapsing subfield of Electronics Technology.  The revision included addressing:

·        The classification of the unit standards on the NQF;

·        The need to make updates to references and correct any errors.

The existing unit standards had had little use, partly because of the non-availability of an electrical registration category suitable for the installation requirements of the electronic security industry.  Following representations to the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB) by the industry, a new registration category of Electrician limited to Electronic Security Installer is now available.  The contents of the National Certificate in Electronic Security (Levels 3) [Ref: 0414] and the National Certificate in Electronic Security (Level 4) [Ref: 0788] are being revised so that the qualifications lead to this new registration category.  This has involved ElectroTechnology Industry Training Organisation (ETITO), EWRB, and the advisory groups for the electrical and security industries, and has led to the development of three new unit standards.

Main changes resulting from the revision

The revision process has resulted in the following changes to the unit standards.

·        Designation of the Electronic Security domain in the Electronics Technology subfield, as Lapsing.  The standards have been moved to a new Electronic Security domain in the new Electronic Engineering subfield.

·        Updating of references and special notes.

·        Minor editing and corrections.

·        Change of title of unit standard 5880.
