Revision of Funeral Services qualifications
National Certificate in Embalming [Ref: 0289]
National Certificate in Funeral Directing [Ref: 0290]
National Diploma in Funeral Services [Ref: 0459]
The Funeral Service Training Trust of New Zealand has revised the qualifications listed above that were registered in July 1998.
Date new versions published March 2004
The review of these qualifications is planned to take place in December 2008
Reasons for the revision
· To extend the period of registration to align with the planned review date.
· To update content following revisions of various unit standards.
· To reflect industry feedback on content and coverage.
· To replace some unit standards with unit standards that are more applicable to the industry.
Main changes resulting from the revision
· Prerequisite diagrams were removed to reflect the outcome of the Funeral Services unit standard revision.
· Credit value of unit standard 3465, listed within all three qualifications, increased, and consequently the minimum credit totals of the qualifications increased.
· Other editorial changes were made to reflect the outcomes of unit standard reviews.
National Certificate in Embalming [Ref: 0289]
Changes to structure and content:
· Unit standard 3465 increased from 1 credit to 2 credits and consequently the credit total of the qualification increased from 168 to 169.
· Prerequisite diagrams removed.
· Other editorial changes were made to reflect the outcomes of unit standard reviews.
Transition
There are no transition consequences as a result of these changes.
National Certificate in Funeral Directing [Ref: 0290]
Changes to structure and content:
· Unit standards 1293, 1296, and 3501 were replaced by unit standards 11097, 9706, and 1297 respectively.
· Unit standard 8342 has increased from level 4 to level 5.
· Unit standard 3465 increased from 1 credit to 2 credits.
· Prerequisite diagrams were removed.
· Other editorial changes were made to reflect the outcomes of unit standard reviews.
· Credit total increased from 152 to 155.
Transition
People currently working towards version 3 of this qualification may either complete the requirements for that version or transfer their results to this version of the qualification. The last date for completion of version 3 is 31 December 2007.
This version of the qualification contains standards that replace standards that appeared in version 3. For the purposes of this qualification people who have gained credit for the standards that are no longer in this version, are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards. These exemptions are applicable until 31 December 2007.

· The credit total increased from 302 to 305.
Transition
People currently working towards version 1 of this qualification may either complete the requirements for that version or transfer their results to this version of the qualification. The last date for completion of version 1 is 31 December 2007.
