Although the National Certificate in Civil Plant Operation (Forest Earthworks) [Ref: 0485] was used by industry, stakeholders expressed dissatisfaction with it in terms of relevance and accessibility.  Following exploratory visits and discussions in early 2003 the Forestry Earthworks TAG (Training Advisory Group) was established to review the qualification with a view to its likely replacement by a more relevant set of outcomes, including new unit standards which had been recently registered.

Main changes resulting from the review

TheNational Certificate in Civil Plant Operation (Forest Earthworks) [Ref: 0485] has been replaced by the National Certificate in Civil Construction Works (Forestry Earthworks) [Ref: 1083].

Transition

There are significant differences between the new and replaced qualifications.  Therefore, people part way through the National Certificate in Civil Plant Operation (Forestry Earthworks) are encouraged to complete that qualification.  The last date for award of the National Certificate in Civil Plant Operation (Forestry Earthworks) is December 2006.

The new qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards.  For the purposes of the new qualification people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards.
