Summary of review and consultation process

The unit standard was reviewed in a process that involved the Department of Conservation, and the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology as the key training provider involved in the delivery of training towards and the assessment of the unit standard, and the Sport, Fitness and Recreation Industry Training Organisation.  There was an interest in broadening the potential user group to include people employed by regional authorities as well as the Department of Conservation, and this is reflected in the changes made to the unit standard.

The review also led to the development of a new unit standard.  The Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation was consulted in the development of this unit standard.

Main changes resulting from the review

·        Title of unit standard 16676 amended.

·        Removal of the requirement in unit standard 16676 to use mechanical equipment.

·        Broadening of scope of unit standard 16676 to cover the skill set used in regional parks.

·        Addition of new elements 1 and 2 about knowledge of the context in which recreational track maintenance takes place.

·        Reduction in credit level for unit standard 16676 from 6 to 5.
