Summary of review and consultation process

BCITO National Office asked regional staff in February 2003 to comment and suggest changes to the solid plastering unit standards.  These were passed to an internal review group, who in March 2003 met to consider the unit standards and resources for solid plastering.

In April 2003 the National Advisory Group for Solid Plastering and Tiling met and considered the report from the internal review group.  Additional minor changes to the unit standards suggested by the National Advisory Group were made.

In September 2003 the units were amended and internal and external consultation sought from BCITO and the National Advisory Group.

A final draft was developed and endorsed by Ian Shepherd, Business Development Manager, BCITO.

Main changes resulting from the review

The review process has resulted in the following changes to the unit standards.

·        Special note for all unit standards updated to reflect current legislation and the reorganisation of the industry Training Board to a National Advisory Group.

·        Special note defining 'solid surfaces' deleted from all unit standards.

·        Unit standards 6101, 6102, and 6103 have had reference to NZ Standard 4251 added to performance criteria.

·        The separation of skills for 'straight and curved' and 'elliptical and arched' bench mouldings is no longer required by industry.  All four skills are now combined in unit standard 6107 and the credit has been increased from 35 to 40.  Unit standard 6106 has been designated category D.

·        Unit standard 6100 has changed title.

·        Unit standards 6101, 6102, 6103, 6105, 6107, 6108, 6109, 6111 have had minor changes made to elements and/or performance criteria.

Unit standard 6106 categorised as category D expires at the end of December 2005.
