Summary of review and consultation process

Since the unit standards were registered, there have been changes to relevant legislation and to the training and assessment environment.

A review process commenced in August 2003.  A panel of experts was formed.  The panel included representatives from the Land Transport Safety Authority, Private Training Establishments, Driving Schools, users, and assessors registered with the New Zealand Road Transport and Logistics Industry Training Organisation.  A final panel meeting was held to endorse the changes and make recommendations.

The review identified:

·        the need to combine two unit standards,

·        the need to create a new unit standard on developing and executing a plan for vehicle extraction, and

·        the opportunity to standardise content.

Main changes resulting from the review

The review process resulted in the following changes to the unit standards.

·        The titles of unit standards 17976 and 17977 were amended, as was the level and/or credits of these unit standards.

·        Unit standards 18474 and 18473 were replaced by new unit standard 20848, which combines most of the outcomes of both.

·        Elements were re-worded to express requirements.

·        New unit standard 20620, Develop and execute a plan for a four wheel drive (4WD) vehicle extraction, was developed.

·        Content of the unit standards was standardised.

·        There have been changes to prerequisites.

Unit standards categorised as category C or D expire at the end of December 2005.
