The Ministry of Education and the Secondary Education Group Assessment business unit of NZQA have completed a review of the achievement standards listed above that were registered in October 2002.

Summary of review and consultation process

 

This review is part of the planned cycle of review that takes place after the first year of use of the achievement standards.

·        Initial feedback and comments were collated from teachers/schools, moderators, the National Assessment Panel, professional development facilitators, material developers, and other stakeholders.

·        This information was reviewed by subject experts and recommendations were made in April 2004.

·        The recommendations were sent out for consultation to all schools, colleges of education and advisory services in May 2004.

·        Consultation feedback was reviewed and, after seeking further subject expert opinion, decisions were made on changes to the standards.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

The review process has resulted in the following modifications to the achievement standards.

 

Chinese

 

·        'Appropriate language' replaces 'vocabulary and structures' in criteria of AS90383, AS90384, AS90386, AS90387 (2.2, 2.3, 2.5, 2.6) in order to emphasis holistic use of language and align with curriculum developments.

·        Changes to criteria for consistent phraseology and to clarify the expected outcome.

·        Changes to explanatory notes to clarify requirements and for consistency with Level 1 and Level 3.

 

Cook Island Māori

 

·        'Appropriate language' replaces 'vocabulary and structures' in criteria of AS90389, AS90390, AS90392, AS90394 (2.2, 2.3, 2.5, 2.7) in order to emphasis holistic use of language and align with curriculum developments.

·        Changes to criteria for consistent phraseology and to clarify the expected outcome.

·        Changes to explanatory notes to clarify requirements and for consistency with Level 1 and Level 3.

·        Change to title of AS90394 (2.7) in keeping with the outcome of the standard.

 

French

 

·        'Appropriate language' replaces 'vocabulary and structures' in criteria of AS90396, AS90397, AS90399, AS90400 (2.2, 2.3, 2.5, 2.6) in order to emphasis holistic use of language and align with curriculum developments.

·        Changes to criteria for consistent phraseology and to clarify the expected outcome.

·        Changes to explanatory notes to clarify requirements and for consistency with Level 1 and Level 3.

 

German

Japanese

·        Change to title of AS90425 (2.7) in keeping with the outcome of the standard.
