Review of Hospitality qualification

 

National Certificatein Hospitality (Level 1) [Ref: 0587]

 

The Hospitality Standards Institute has completed the review of the qualification listed above that was registered in February 1999.

A comprehensive review of level 1 Hospitality unit standards commenced in 2002 and was completed in October 2003.  Changes occurred to the levels, credits and content of some unit standards.  A need was also identified for new unit standards to complement the hospitality electives available for qualifications.

 

Changes required for the National Certificate in Hospitality (Level 1) were identified through stakeholder meetings, feedback and consultation.  These include additions to the unit standards in the compulsory and elective sets, to improve access to the qualification and meet the needs of a wider range of students.

 

Version 2 of the qualification also takes account of the review of Home and Life Sciences unit standards.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

·               Titles, levels and credits of reviewed unit standards updated

·               Unit standards 15908, 15902, 15903, 15906 and 15907 were replaced (see table below)

·               Unit standard 64 added to the compulsory list

·               Unit standards 6634, 6648, 15627, and 21057-21059 added to the elective list

·               Compulsory credits increased from 20 to 29

·               Elective credits decreased from 20 to 11

·               Qualification issued as version 2.

 

Transition

 

People currently working towards version 1 of this qualification may either complete the requirements for that version or transfer their results to version 2 of the qualification.  The last date for people to complete version 1 is 31 December 2006.

 

This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards.  For the purposes of this qualification people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards.

It is anticipated that no existing candidates are disadvantaged by these transition arrangements.  However, candidates may appeal in the first instance to the Hospitality Standards Institute and appeals will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
