The Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Secondary Education Group Assessment business unit of NZQA have completed a review of the achievement standards listed above that were registered in October 2002.

Summary of review and consultation process
This review is part of the planned cycle of review that takes place after the first year of use of the achievement standards.
· Initial feedback and comments were collated from teachers/schools, moderators, the National Assessment Panels, professional development facilitators, material developers and other stakeholders.
· This information was reviewed by a subject writing group and recommendations were made in March 2004.
· The recommendations were sent out for consultation to all schools, colleges of education and advisory services in May 2004.
· Consultation feedback reviewed by NAF (NZQA) and CF (MoE), decisions made on the basis of feedback, consultation with subject experts on some points of clarification.
Main changes resulting from the review
The review process has resulted in the following modifications to the achievement standards:
· AS90299 redundant word removed from achievement criteria, changes to explanatory note 2 and 3, and additional explanatory notes to provide better guidance and interpretation.
· AS90300 one word change for consistency with AS90299 and a repositioned word in the achievement criteria, changes to or additional explanatory notes to clarify interpretation, and credit value increased from 2 to 3.
· AS90301 change to title, changes to achievement criteria and changes to and additional explanatory notes, all to clarify intention and requirements.
· AS90302 minor change to title, three separate achievement criteria established, instead of one to clarify requirements of standard, changes to and additional explanatory notes to give clear interpretation of requirements.
· AS90303 minor changes to some explanatory notes, and credit value decreased from 6 to 5.
· AS90304 title changed to indicate outcomes, changes to and additional explanatory notes to clarify requirements.
