The Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Secondary Education Group Assessment business unit of NZQA have completed a review of the achievement standards listed above that were registered in October 2002.

Summary of review and consultation process
This review is part of the planned cycle of review that takes place after the first year of use of the achievement standards.
· Initial feedback and comments were collated from teachers, schools, moderators, the National Assessment Panel (NAF), professional development facilitators, material developers, and other stakeholders.
· This information was reviewed by subject experts and recommendations were made in March 2004.
· The recommendations were sent out for consultation to subject networks, including teachers, assessors, moderators, facilitators, and advisors in May 2004.
· Consultation feedback reviewed by NAF (NZQA) and CF (MoE). A second meeting with subject experts reviewed the standards, making further changes or reversing some recommendations, in the light of the feedback.
Main changes resulting from the review
The review process has resulted in the following modifications to the achievement standards:
· AS90264 change of credit value, minor word changes, and one explanatory note deleted.
· AS90265 change of credit value, some clarifications to explanatory notes.
· AS90266 slight change to title, deletions and additions to achievement criteria, additional explanatory notes, all to clarify the expectations and requirements of the standard.
· AS90267 change to wording in achievement criteria, additional explanatory notes, to clarify the intention and requirements of the standard.
· AS90268 change to title, achievement criteria, additional explanatory notes, all to clarify the intention and expectations of the standard.
· AS90269 change to wording of title, achievement criteria and explanatory notes to clarify intention of the standard.
· AS90270 change of credit value, expanded achievement criteria, changes to or additional explanatory notes, all to clarify intention and requirements of the standard.

AS90269 and unit standard 18817 have been added to the exclusion list because they assess the same learning outcomes and are mutually exclusive for the NCEA.
