At the request of the NZQA Māori Qualifications Services Māori Geography (General Education) Whakaruruhau, the Qualifications Authority has changed the classification of the unit standards referred to above. The new domain, which has the same name as the one it replaced, is in field Māori, subfield General Education Māori, rather than in the Social Sciences field. The domain in the Social Sciences fieldhas been designated as lapsed.
Date new versions published October 2004
Rationale for the change
Consultation took place with the Māori Geography Whakaruruhau and they concluded that it would be in the best interests of potential candidates to transfer the Māori Geography unit standards to Field Māori so that Māori Qualifications Services is better able to:
· Provide schools, particularly kura kaupapa, wharekura and mainstream schools incorporating kaupapa Māori within their teaching programmes, with more options for the attainment of the certification such as National Certificate in Māori (Te Waharoa) (Level 2).
· Promote usage.
The opportunity of the reclassification was taken to correct references to legislation and clarify wording of the unit standards.
