Forest Industries Training has revised the qualifications listed above that were registered in March 2001.

Date new versions published                                                                    October 2004

Reason for the revision and main changes

1     The forestry sector advisory group Level 1 to 4 became aware that there was a need to improve the driving skills of people driving passenger vehicles inside the forest.  The Forest Owners Association had recommended to their members that all drivers gain credit for the relevant driving unit standards and well as licences for the vehicles they drive in the forest.  Some forest owners have now adopted that recommendation as a requirement in their forests.  To support this initiative the forestry sector advisory group requested the modification of relevant qualification electives to extend the driving skill set available.  Appropriate Driving domains have been added to the elective section of relevant qualifications.

2     The forestry sector advisory group discussed the alignment of the Growsafe unit standards used by contractors in establishment operations with the establishment and silviculture qualifications.  To improve the consistency between the Growsafe industry training and the national forestry qualifications unit standards relating to the Growsafe programme have been added to the elective section of the relevant qualifications.

3     This revision incorporates the necessary changes required as result of Fluid Power and Fire and Rescue Services unit standard reviews.

4     This revision includes a change to elective sets that specify credits from the subfield Communication Skills.  The subfield Communication Skills has been confined to the domain Interpersonal Skills.  All candidates for these forestry qualifications work towards unit standards in this domain so the change has no transition implications.
