The Sport, Fitness and Recreation Industry Training Organisation has decided that the unit standards listed above, which were first registered in October 1993, June 1996 and November 1999 should have their period of registration extended.

The reason for the rollover is that the unit standards in Windsurfing have not been used sufficiently to warrant a review at this stage and unit standards in Tramping and Mountain Craft have been scheduled for review in 2006.

The rollover will maintain the currency of the unit standards until they have been reviewed.  It is intended that these unit standards will be reviewed in 2006.

The unit standards have been revised to update the special notes, and in the case of the Windsurfing unit standards, to clarify the purpose statements.

Summary of review and consultation process

Sfrito initiated this review in consultation with stakeholders from April 2001 until October 2003.  Stakeholders included industry organisations, assessors, and workplace and provider representatives.  The review process has included focus group meetings and consultation by mail with assessors, workplaces, industry bodies, and providers from around the country.  As a result the unit standards have been restructured and updated to reflect current industry practices and requirements.

Following discussion between Sfrito and the Aviation, Tourism and Travel Training Organisation (ATTTO), the Canoeing - Kayaking unit standards covering Sea Kayaking (Unit standards 488-491) will now come under the standard setting responsibility of ATTTO, and will be the subject of a separate review exercise.
