The Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Secondary Education Group Assessment business unit of NZQA have completed a review of the achievement standards listed above that were registered in October 2002.

Summary of review and consultation process

 

This review is part of the planned cycle of review that takes place after the first year of use of the achievement standards.

·        Initial feedback and comments were collated from teachers/schools, moderators, the National Assessment Panel, professional development facilitators, material developers, and other stakeholders.

·        This information was reviewed by a subject writing group and recommendations were made in March 2004.

·        The recommendations were sent out for consultation to all schools, colleges of education and advisory services in May 2004.

·        Consultation material reviewed by National Assessment Facilitator (NZQA) and Curriculum Facilitator (MoE), decisions made on the basis of feedback, consultation with subject experts on some points.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

The review process has resulted in the following modifications to the achievement standards:

·        AS90276 - the title, achievement criteria, and the explanatory notes have been amended to clarify the requirements and expectations of the standard without altering the intent.

·        AS90277 - amendments to the explanatory notes to clarify the intent of the standard.

·        AS90278 - title changed, reversed the order of the achievement criteria and amended one (for consistency with other criteria within the media studies standards), additional or amended explanatory notes, all to clarify the requirements and expectations of the standard without altering the intent.

·        AS90279 - slight change to title, deletion of redundant phrases in outcome statement and achievement criteria, amendments to or additional explanatory notes, all to clarify the requirements and expectations of the standard without altering the intent.

·        AS90280 - slight change to title, deletion of redundant phrase in purpose statement and achievement criteria, amendments to or additional explanatory notes, all to clarify the requirements and expectations of the standard without altering the intent.

·        AS90281 - replaced by new achievement standard AS90765.  Change to title, purpose statement and an additional criterion added to incorporate AS90283 (MS 2.8) into this standard, change to achievement criteria at excellence to clarify expectation, amendments to or additional explanatory notes, additional 2 credits.

·        AS90282 - slight change to title, change to achievement criterion, amendments to or additional explanatory notes, all to clarify the requirements and expectations of the standard without altering the intent.

·        AS90283 - standard deleted and incorporated into replacement achievement standard AS90765 (MS 2.6).

 

Internally assessed achievement standards 90281 and 90283, which are a Category C review, will expire in December 2005.

 

Impact on existing provider accreditations

 

None.

 

Impact on Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP)

 

AMAP 0226 has been updated to reflect that standards 90281 and 90283 have been replaced by new achievement standard 90765.

 

Impact on existing qualifications

 

None.

 

Impact of changes on NCEA Exclusions List

 

AS90280 and unit standard 7464 have been added to the exclusion list because they assess the same learning outcomes and are mutually exclusive for the NCEA.
