Summary of review and consultation process
Postal surveys requesting feedback on unit standards were sent out to Industry Good organisations; sector representative groups such as Young Farmers and Federated Farmers; agriculture service providers such as banking institutions, NZ Institute of Primary Industry Management; Agriculture Industry Training Organisation regional committee staff; past and current trainees, and training providers.
A series of stakeholder meetings comprising training providers, and industry representatives were held in Wairarapa/Hawkes Bay, Waikato, Northland, Canterbury, and Otago/Southland, between January and May 2004 to gain feedback on the content of the unit standards. Concurrently, an independent consulting agency was appointed to consult directly with past and present students to gain their feedback on the content and currency of unit standards.
Results from stakeholder and student meetings were collated, and a review panel of key industry people was convened to consider changes, and to provide recommendations for approval of changes to existing unit standards, the requirements for new unit standards, and the deletion (designation as expiring) of unit standards that no longer met the needs of industry.
Amended and new unit standards were then sent out to all stakeholders for their postal feedback. Postal feedback was collated, considered, and approved, or not approved by the review panel.
A final draft was developed and endorsed by the Agriculture ITO Pastoral Committee on 27 October 2004.
