Review of Poultry Production qualification

National Certificate in Poultry Production (Level 2) with strands in Breeding Operations, Hatchery Operations, Table Egg Production, and Poultry Meat Production [Ref: 0886]

The Agriculture Industry Training Organisation has completed the review of the qualification listed above that was registered in July 2001.

Date new version published                        April 2005

The review was carried out to update the qualification to reflect name changes of industry sectors.

Following industry consultation, the qualification strands were restructured in line with industry sectors.  Further follow up with individual industry representatives and training providers was carried out as required to clarify and confirm changes.

This process also identified the need for a higher level qualification.  The content for this qualification was determined from industry feedback, and the qualification content was confirmed following wider consultation with industry representatives.

The Agriculture Industry Training Organisation is now satisfied that the views of all stakeholders have been taken into consideration in the new version of the reviewed qualification, as well as the new qualification.  Feedback has confirmed that demand for these qualifications are justified, as the poultry industry continues to operate in a growing market, and demand for trained employees increases.

Main changes resulting from the review

National Certificate in Poultry Management (Level 4) [Ref: 1156]

This is a new qualification for people involved with poultry facility management.  The qualification electives allow people to specialise in an aspect of poultry management such as hatchery, poultry rearing, or poultry lay unit operations, and to allow for individual workplace differences in the skills and knowledge requirements of people who manage poultry facilities.
