The Agriculture Industry Training Organisation (Water Industry Training) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above that were registered in May 2002.

Date new versions published                        April 2005

New comments by date                        April 2009

Expiry date of new versions of the unit standards                        December 2010

Summary of review and consultation process

The review was carried out because feedback from industry, training providers, and moderation indicated that some performance criteria were creating a barrier to completion, current industry practices were not included, and some industry practices and requirements had changed.

The affected unit standards were updated as a result of this feedback and sent out to all stakeholders, industry, training providers, and moderators for further feedback, and confirmation.

The Agriculture Industry Training Organisation (Water Industry Training) are satisfied that the views of all stakeholders have been taken into consideration.

Main changes resulting from the review

·        Performance criteria have been updated to reflect current technical criteria and to improve clarity.

·        Details have been added to, and removed from, performance criteria to reflect current industry practices.

·        Range statements have been amended to meet current technical criteria of minimum assessment requirements, to improve clarity, and to reflect current industry requirements.

·        Specific reference to PVC pipes has been deleted from unit standard 19203 as there are a range of types of pipes used for water reticulation.

·        A new special note has been added to unit standard 19203 to clarify the assessment requirements for the type of pipeline, and pipe materials.

·        Candidates are now required to be assessed for either reservoirs or reticulation mains for unit standard 19210, as assessment for both was creating a barrier to completion as people would not be involved with both activities.

·        New elements have been added to unit standards 19211 and 19215 to cover the causes of failure, and methods of prevention of failure of pipes as this is was not included in the previous version.

·        Credits have been increased from 4 to 6 in unit standards 19211 and 19215 to take into account the new element.

·        Titles have been amended to match updated elements.

·        Elements and performance criteria, as amended, have been aligned.
