The NZ Furniture Industry Training Organisation has completed the review of the qualifications listed above that were registered in October 2000.

Date new versions published                        August 2005

The review of the Level 2 qualification is planned to take place in 2009.

Reason for the review

The National Diploma in Furniture (Management) (Level 6) [Ref: 0321], and the National Diploma in Furniture (Supervision) (Level 5) [Ref: 0322] are no longer considered fit for purpose by industry as candidates chose the generic first line management and business qualifications that were already registered on the NQF.  On that basis, the NZ Furniture Industry Training Organisation has decided to expire these qualifications.

The industry has recently revised and developed new qualifications in furniture finishing.  This process highlighted that the intent of the National Certificate in Furniture (Introduction to General Furniture Manufacturing) (Level 2) was not clearly defined in the qualification's purpose statement.  This has now been addressed in the new version of the qualification.

Main changes resulting from the review

Amendments were made to the purpose statement of the Level 2 qualification to bring it up to date and clarify its the intent.  The new purpose statement also shows how this qualification links to other qualifications in the furniture subfield.  The elective section was divided into three.

Changes to structure and content

·      Amendments were made to the purpose statement.

·      The elective section was divided into three with two of the electives enabling choice of unit standards from anywhere in the furniture subfield and one elective enabling choice from anywhere on the NQF.

Transition

This qualification was issued following a review.  The purpose statement has been reworded to clarify the intent of the qualification and includes information on how this qualification links to other registered qualifications in the furniture subfield.  The qualification requirements have been separated into three electives that reflect the same credit totals as the previous versions of the qualification.

There are no transition implications from this change.  However, the qualification requires credits from the Furniture subfield, which contains standards that were previously registered in the Furniture Trades subfield.

For the purposes of this qualification, credit awarded in the following domains will be accepted as meeting the qualification requirements.

The NZ Furniture Industry Training Organisation is unaware of any existing candidates for the two diplomas, and does not anticipate any person will be disadvantaged by their expiry.  The last date for their award is December 2006.
