NZQA National Qualifications Services has completed the review of the unit standards listed above that were registered in April 1998.
Summary of review and consultation process
The reason for the review was to consider which of the unit standards in the subfield were relevant to Pacific Islands Early Childhood Education in the New Zealand context. Feedback from the early childhood networks advised that the two unit standards listed above were considered unsafe and it was requested that they be designated as expiring with a short timeframe until the date of expiry.
Unit standards categorised as category D expire at the end of December 2005.
Impact on Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP)
None.
Impact on existing qualifications
Unit standards 12656 and 12682 are listed in the Fiji and Samoa strands of the National Certificate in Pacific Islands Early Childhood Education (Parent Helper) with strands in Cook Islands, Fiji, Niue, Samoa, and Tonga [Ref: 0636]. This qualification is currently under review and these standards will be removed from the qualification.

NZQA National Qualifications Services has decided that the unit standards listed above, which were registered in April 1998, should have their period of registration extended.
The reason for the rollover and revision is that the unit standards have not been used sufficiently to warrant a review at this stage.
The review of these unit standards is planned to take place during 2006-2007.
Date new versions published August 2005
New comments by date December 2006
Expiry date of new versions of the unit standards December 2007
Reason for the revision
The unit standards were considered as part of the review of six of the Pacific domains in the subfield: Pacific Islands Early Childhood Education; and the National Certificate in Pacific Islands Early Childhood Education (Parent Helper) with strands in Cook Islands, Fiji, Niue, Samoa, and Tonga [Ref: 0636]. It was decided that these unit standards should be made current so that the qualification could be reviewed to make it more relevant in the New Zealand context and fit for purpose. The special notes were updated, to include changes to legislation, and editorial amendments were made to clarify definitions.
Main changes resulting from the revision
· Target groups removed from the purpose statements
· Special notes have been revised and updated to include changes to legislation, references, and definitions of words.
· Minor errors in purpose statements and elements have been corrected.
· Titles of 12676, 12679, 12681, and 12683 were amended.
