The Ministry of Education and the Secondary Education Group Assessment business unit of NZQA have revised the achievement standards listed above that were registered in November 2003.

Reason for the revision
The definition of the term ‘explain’ in these standards was inconsistent with the definition used in AS90161 and AS90162 Biology 1.1 and 1.2, which were revised in October 2004. It was also inconsistent the definition used in Level 2 and 3 Biology achievement standards

The definition of ‘explain’ in Explanatory Notes (EN) has been changed from:
Explainrequires the student to provide a reason as to howand why something occurs.
to:
Explainrequires the student to provide a reason as to how or why something occurs.
