Reason for the revision

The prerequisite for this unit standard, Unit 20395, Wear and operate breathing apparatus in specialist emergencies, was not considered relevant as it is a New Zealand Fire Service specialist unit, which requires specialist equipment not available in the generalist sphere of industrial and commercial fire response.  Given the specialist nature of unit 20395, retaining it as a prerequisite would have disadvantaged many user groups in obtaining unit standard 14562.  Unit standard 3272, Wear and operate breathing apparatus in general emergencies, is a more appropriate unit standard for use in the wider fire and rescue services environment.  It was considered that the designation of 20395 as a prerequisite was due to an oversight, and that the entry information should have stated that 3272 was recommended.

Consultation with the Industry Training Advisory Group has occurred and the Group supported the change.

Main changes resulting from the revision

The entry criteria have changed from unit standard 20395 being a prerequisite to 3272 being a recommended unit standard.
