Sfrito has completed the review of the qualifications listed above that were registered in May 2001, and October 2002.

These qualifications were reviewed following the review of the Snowsport and Outdoor Recreation unit standards, and to ensure that they met current industry practice and the snowsport industries labour market needs. The qualifications were reviewed by departmental specific focus groups in 2004-2005, with input from employers, supervisors, trainees, providers, and assessors. Sfrito also ensured there was consultation with small and large snowsport areas from the different regions in New Zealand.
The snowschool qualifications were reviewed with endorsement from the New Zealand Snowsport Instructor's Alliance.
Main changes resulting from the review
National Certificate in Snowsport (Level 2) with strands in Surface Lift Operation, Aerial Lift Operation, Road and Carpark Services, and Maintenance [Ref: 0439]
New title: National Certificate in Snowsport with strands in Aerial Lift Operation, Road and Carpark Services, and Surface Lift Operation
Changes to structure and content
· Qualification total decreased from 50 to 40 credits.
· The level has been removed from the title.
· Maintenance strand has been deleted.
· Unit standards 56 and 497 removed from core compulsory.
· Unit standard 18100 increased in level from 2 to 3 and increased in credit from 1 to 3.
· Unit standard 18134 moved from strand compulsory to strand elective in the Aerial Lift Operations and Surface Lift Operations strands.
· Unit standard 435 replaced by unit standard 20159 in strand electives.
· Unit standard 21740, and the Skiing and Snowboarding domain added to strand electives to replace the list of standards from that domain.
Changes to Aerial Lift Operation Strand
· Unit standards 436, 443, 6402, 11097, and 18133 removed from strand elective.

This qualification, 0851 and 0860 have been replaced by the National Certificate in Snowsport (Supervision) with strands in Lift Operation, Patrol Leader, Snowsport Equipment, Snowgrooming, Snowmaking, Snowschool, and Ticketing and Guest Services [Ref: 1219].

· Change in title to include ‘Supervision'.
· Unit standards 3492, 9679, 9705 and 11994 added to the core compulsory.
· Unit standards 376, 6401, 6402 and 18102 removed from this qualification.
· Strand electives restructured into core elective.
· Unit standards 6400, 8638, 11281, 16078, and 18664 added to the core elective.
Changes to Lift Operation Strand
· Credit total increased from 58 to 65 credits.
· Unit standard 18135 moved from strand compulsory to the core elective.
· Unit standards 424, 435, 436, 439, 443, 1297, 3491, 4577, 18132, 18133, 18136, 18994, and the skiing and snowboarding domain removed from the strand elective.
· People currently working towards version 4 of this strand can complete that qualification; transfer to this new qualification; or alternatively transfer their results to the National Certificate in Snowsport (Advanced Lift Operation) [Ref: 1217]. The last date for completion of the former qualification is 31 December 2008.
Changes to Snowgrooming Strand
· Credit total increased from 68 to 75 credits.
· Unit standard 21750 added to the strand compulsory.
· Unit standard 3491 removed from the strand compulsory.
· Unit standards 376, 424, 435, 436, 439, 443, 1297, 2397, 4576, 4577, 4579, 4584, 5622, 18101, 18132, and 18133, and the skiing and snowboarding domain removed from the strand elective.
Changes to Snowmaking Strand
· Credit total increased from 71 to 75 credits.
· Unit standard 21749 added to the strand compulsory.
· Unit standards 2784 and 3491 deleted from the strand compulsory.
· Unit standards 376, 423, 424, 435, 439, 443, 1297, 2397, 4576, 4577, 4579, 4584, 5624, 18101, 18132, and 18133, and the skiing and snowboarding domain removed from the strand elective.

Changes to structure and content
· The Patrol strand of the National Certificate in Snowsport (Patrol) (Level 3) with strands in Courtesy Patrol and Patrol [Ref: 0492] is now a prerequisite to this qualification.
· Unit standards 56, 57, 62, 378, 4573, 4580, 4581, 4583, 6400, 6401, 6402, 6418, 14470, 14471, 14473, 18100, 18127, 18128, 18129, 18134 and 18135 have been removed as all of them (with the exception of unit standards 56 and 62) are contained in the prerequisite qualification.
· Unit standard 18139 added to compulsory.
· Unit standards 8638, 17694, 17699, and 18138 added to elective.
· Credit total decreased from 137 to 70.
· Unit standards 376 and 4563 moved from elective to compulsory
· Elective credit requirement increased from 4 to 6.

National Certificate in Snowsport (Patrol Leader) (Level 5) [Ref: 0851]
This qualification, 0442 and 860 have been replaced by the National Certificate in Snowsport (Supervision) with strands in Lift Operation, Patrol Leader, Snowsport Equipment, Snowgrooming, Snowmaking, Snowschool, and Ticketing and Guest Services [Ref: 1219].
Changes to Structure and Content
· Title changed to include ‘Supervision'.

National Certificate in Snowsport (Snow Safety) (Level 6) [Ref: 0852]
Changes to structure and content
· Unit standard 3492 added to the compulsory section.
· The elective requirement decreased from 10 to 7 credits and the level requirement for elective credits has been decreased from level 5 or above to level 3 or above from specified domains.
· The snowsport subfield has been removed from the elective.
· The prerequisite for the National Certificate in Snowsport (Patrol Leader) (Level 5) [Ref: 0581] has been removed, and the National Certificate in Snowsport (Patrol) (Level 4) [Ref: 0443] is now a prerequisite to the qualification.
People currently working towards version 1 of this qualification may either complete the requirements for that version or transfer their results to this version of the qualification. The last date for people to complete version 1 is 31 December 2008.
National Certificate in Snowsport (Ticketing and Customer Services Supervision) (Level 4) [Ref: 0860]
This qualification, 0442 and 0851 have been replaced by the National Certificate in Snowsport (Supervision) with strands in Lift Operation, Patrol Leader, Snowsport Equipment, Snowgrooming, Snowmaking, Snowschool, and Ticketing and Guest Services [Ref: 1219].

· Title changed from ‘Customer' to ‘Guest'.
· Credit total decreased from 70 to 60 credits.

National Certificate in Snowsport (Snow School) (Level 3) [Ref: 0898]
This qualification has been replaced by the National Certificate in Snowsport (Snowschool) (Level 3) [Ref: 1218]
Changes to structure and content
· Total credit valued decreased from 60 to 59 credits.
· Unit standards 56, 57, 62, 376, 378, 1304, 1312, 9705, 11097 (Sfrito National Customer Service Award) removed from the compulsory section.
· Number of Elective sections reduced from three to two.
· Elective requirements and selection of standards changed. The non-snowsport elective unit standards were removed (ie unit standards from Communication Skills, Service Sector, Sport, Community Recreation, Health Studies, Outdoor Recreation, Avalanche, Outdoor Equipment and Snowsport Area Operations classifications).
· The Elective List 2 requirement to obtain credits from the Skiing and Snowboarding domain was removed and replaced with listed unit standards from that domain (ie unit standards 4591, 4594, 4597, 4602, 4605, 4592, 4603, 4606, and 18104). These unit standards now make up the listings for the two remaining electives.
· New unit standards 21746, 21747, and 21752 added to compulsory section.
· Unit standards 18990, 4588, 18130 that were elective are now compulsory.
People currently working towards the National Certificate in Snowsport (Snow School) (Level 3) [Ref: 0898] may either complete the requirements for that qualification or transfer their results to this qualification. The last date for award of the National Certificate in Snowsport (Snow School) (Level 3) [Ref: 0898] is 31 December 2008.

· Unit standards 4600, 18104, 4592, and 4593 removed from elective 1.
· The unit standards from the Management subfield were removed from elective 2 and are now in the National Certificate in Snowsport (Supervision) with strands in Lift Operation, Patrol Leader, Snowsport Equipment, Snowgrooming, Snowmaking, Snowschool, and Ticketing and Guest Services [Ref: 1219].
People currently working towards version 1 of this qualification may either complete the requirements for that version or transfer their results to this version of the qualification. The last date for award of version 1 is 31 December 2008.
It is not intended that anyone be disadvantaged by this review, and the above arrangements have been designed for a smooth transition. However, anyone who feels they have been disadvantaged may appeal to the Sport, Fitness and Recreation Industry Training Organisation at the address below.
