In April 1996 the Maritime Industry Training Organisation (now Competenz) undertook an early review of the above two unit standards to take account of the concerns expressed by the Coastguard Federation. The unit standards were replaced by unit standards 6914 and 6915, which were developed to meet safe operation and legislative requirements.

Due to an administrative error the replaced standards were not removed from the National Qualification Framework. This error was corrected in February 2005.

Unit standards 4135 and 4136 were due to expire on December 1996. This date has now been extended to December 2005. However it is strongly recommended that the replacement unit standards are used instead.

Impact on existing qualifications

The Public Sector Training Organisation's National Certificate in Conservation (Trainee Ranger) [Ref: 0642] has been updated to reflect the expiry of 4136, and include the replacement standard 6915.

The Public Sector Training Organisation's National Certificate in Conservation (Ranger) [Ref: 0797] will be updated to reflect the expiry of 4136, and include the replacement standard 6915.

The following transition will apply.

This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards. For the purposes of this qualification people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards.
