The New Zealand Industry Training Organisation (NZITO) has developed a new unit standard for people dealing with hazardous substances in the workplace:  Unit 20733, Demonstrate knowledge of safe storage and handling of hazardous substances in the workplace.

 

The standardhas been designed to provide a basic level of knowledge of legislation relevant to hazardous substances.  It may provide a complement to other unit standards, for example, Unit 11961, Store hazardous goods and toxic substances in a retail or distribution environment, Unit 18412, Explain the requirements of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996, and Unit 20645, Describe the requirements of the HSNO Act 1996 relevant to approved handlers.

 

The NZITO has decided that all providers with existing accreditation for Unit 11961, Store hazardous goods and toxic substances in a retail or distribution environment should have their accreditation extended to include unit standard 20733.
