Review of Hospitality qualification

 

National Certificate in Hospitality (Accommodation Services) [Ref: 0551]

 

The Hospitality Standards Institute has completed the review of the qualification listed above that was registered in November 1998.

The review of this qualification is planned to take place in 2009

 

Reason for the review

 

·          Industry feedback was received from the Motel Association of New Zealand who demanded qualification development to facilitate access by their accommodation staff to National Qualifications.

·          The skill set of motel housekeepers differs from those in Hotels and Motor Inns.

·          Version 2 of the qualification was seen by the motel sector as not fully applicable to employees in their sector.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

The two new unit standards in the 'Cleaning Skills' domain, covering the cleaning of windows and building exteriors which motel housekeepers and cleaners are required to undertake, were added to the qualification as an optional strand.

Changes to structure and content

·        Unit standard 62 was added to the elective list

·        An optional strand in Motel Housekeeping was added

·        The credit tables were updated
