Review of Conservation qualification
National Certificate in Conservation (Trainee Ranger) [Ref: 0642]
The Public Sector Training Organisation (PSTO) has completed the review of the qualification listed above that was registered in July 1999.
Date new versions published February 2005
The qualification has been registered since July 1999. Since that time the needs of the sector have changed. The qualification draws on unit standards from a range of standard setting bodies (SSBs). Many of these SSBs have reviewed their unit standards and this has resulted in the need to review this qualification. There is a close and positive working relationship between the key provider of the qualification, Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT), and the Department of Conservation (DoC) therefore a combined NMIT/DoC/PSTO advisory group conducted the review. Through involvement in the advisory group, feedback was also received from current and past students and from Māori interests.
Main changes resulting from the review
Significant changes have been made, resulting from reviews of unit standards and the refining of the qualification following several years of use, to bring it in line with current practice.
