Revision of Tree Felling unit standard 1255, Fell trees using machine assistance

Forestry Industry Training and Education Council (FITEC) has revised the unit standard listed above, which was re-registered in December 2000 following its review.

 

The review of this unit standard is planned to take place during 2005.

Reason for the revision

 

It came to FITEC's attention that the wrong prerequisite had been used in version 4 of the above unit standard.  The unit standard should have been changed following review to make it accessible for people not working in a commercial production environment.

 

For this reason the unit standard prerequisite should have been Unit 17766, Fell trees safely using a chainsaw and basic techniques rather than Unit 17765, Fell trees in a commercial forest harvesting operation, which was listed in error.

 

Main changes resulting from the revision

 

This entry information mistake noted above has been corrected in version 5 of the standard, and Unit 17766, Fell trees safely using a chainsaw and basic techniques is now the stated prerequisite.

 

Details for 'industry best practice' publications in special note 2 have also been updated.
