Summary of review and consultation process
Competenz is currently engaged in a major review of mechanical engineering qualifications and, in conjunction with this, many unit standards require review. Following initial industry sector and provider meetings in 2002, a number of expert groups were delegated the responsibility to manage the review of specific groups of unit standards.
This review report summarises the outcomes of the review of unit standards in the domains of Engineering Core Skills and Engineering - Measurement. Unit standards 2395 and 2396 were needed urgently for other qualifications and have therefore been reviewed ahead of this batch. Unit standard 12299 requires further specialist consultation, and will be reviewed during 2005.
Main changes resulting from the review
· Unit standard 2373: moved from the Engineering Core Skills domain to the Metal Casting domain.
· Unit standard 2383: moved from the Engineering Core Skills domain to the Engineering - Materials domain.
· Unit standard 6518: designated as expiring and will not be replaced. Outcome met by unit standards 2397 and 2402.
· Amendments to titles, elements, performance criteria, and range statements to better convey the standard.
· Amended and updated special notes.
· Unit standard 4432: level increased from level 1 to level 2 with an increased focus on practice.
· Unit standard 4434: moved from the Engineering - Measurement domain to the Engineering Drawing and Design domain.
· Unit standard 4442: increased emphasis on the use of coordinate measuring machines in geometrical tolerancing in recognition of growth in this technology.
· General amendments to titles, elements, performance criteria, and range statements to better convey the standard.
· Amended and updated special notes.
Unit standards categorised as category C or D expire at the end of December 2008.
