Responsibility for the unit standard referred to above, which was registered in 2001 has been transferred from the Joinery Industry Training Organisation to the Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation.

Date new version published                                                   July 2005

New comments by date                                                            July 2009

Expiry date of new version of the unit standard                December 2010

Rationale for the change

The Joinery ITO, which previously had responsibility for this unit standard, is no longer using it.  However nine Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation qualifications contain this unit standard, so it was felt that BCITO should assume responsibility for it.  This view is supported by Joinery ITO.  Upon consultation with industry, element 3 ‘Use powder powered tools’ was found to be only relevant to a small number of trades, and it was felt that the generic purpose of the unit standard would be better served by removing the element and making available a specific list of tools for each trade (including powder-powered tools for the relevant trades) by contacting BCITO.

Main changes resulting from the review

·        Element 3 has been removed.

·        The purpose statement has been changed to reflect the content of the two remaining elements.

·        The moderation statement has been changed to reflect the inclusion in BCITO AMAP 0048.

·        Special notes have been changed to include definitions, legislation requirements and to update information regarding the range of tools required for assessment.

·        Small changes have been made to the elements and performance criteria for consistency and to suit the generic purpose of the unit standard.
