Review of Security qualification

 

Review of National Certificate in Security (Level 2) [Ref: 0176]

 

The ElectroTechnology Industry Training Organisation (ETITO) in conjunction with the Security Industry Training Advisory Board (SITAB) and the security industry has reviewed the above qualification that was registered in May 2000.

The review of this qualification is planned to take place in 2010

 

Reason for the review

 

This review of this qualification followed a major review of the security unit standards by the industry.  The review reflected the experience of the last five years of training, assessment, and industry experience.  The review also took into account the anticipated future skill requirements of the industry.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

This qualification was reviewed and issued as version 6.

 

Changes to structure and content

·      Unit standards 57, 1277, 1299, and 17233 were replaced by unit standard 21107

·      Some components of unit standard 17233 were included in unit standards 6519 and 21110 and will form part of the National Certificate in Security (Level 3) with strands in Mobile Patrol, Personal Protection, Retail Security, Secure Transport, Site Security, and Venue Security [Ref: 0227] when it is reviewed

·      Unit standard 62 was removed and some of its components were included in new industry specific unit standard 21108

·      Unit standard 6519 was replaced by unit standard 21105 to better reflect industry requirements at this level

·      Unit standard 505 was introduced to help candidates manage their physical fitness

·      Unit standard 6400 was included to enhance candidates' first aid knowledge and skills

·      Unit standard 6520 has been replaced by unit standard 21106 to better reflect the industries current and anticipated needs

·      Unit standard 16800 was replaced by unit standard 3271 which better reflects industry requirements

·      Unit standard 20596 was created and included to provide candidates with a better introduction to the industry

·      Qualification credit value was increased from 48 to 51.

 

Transition

 

People currently enrolled in programmes leading to the award of version 5 of this qualification may either complete that qualification by 31 December 2007 or transfer to version 6.

 

This qualification contains unit standards that replace unit standards that form part of version 5 of the qualification.  For the purposes of this qualification people who have gained credit for these standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards.

These exemptions will apply until 31 December 2007, which is the last date to complete the requirements of version 5 of the qualification.

 

All new candidates will be enrolled in programmes leading to version 6 of the qualification.
