Review of Furniture qualifications

National Certificate in Furniture (Retail and Wholesale) (Level 2) [Ref: 0437]

 

The NZ Furniture Industry Training Organisation has completed the review of the qualifications listed above that were registered in March 1998 and May 1998.

This review was prompted by a request from the industry to designate the National Certificate in Furniture Product Knowledge (Level 2) [Ref: 0476] as expiring.  Industry has said that version 4 of the National Certificate in Furniture (Retail and Wholesale) (Level 2) [Ref: 0437] will meet the industry needs.  The National Certificate in Furniture (Retail and Wholesale) (Level 2) [Ref: 0437] also needed to be brought up to date with changes resulting from the reclassification of unit standards within the Retail, Distribution, and Sales subfield.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

The main changes resulting from the review are the designation of the National Certificate in Furniture Product Knowledge [Ref: 0476] as expiring, updating and amendments to the National Certificate in Furniture (Retail and Wholesale) (Level 2) [Ref: 0437], and the addition of an optional strand in Buying and Selling.

This qualification is designated as expiring although industry will continue to recognise it.

 

Transition

 

Trainees working towards this qualification may either complete the qualification or transfer to the National Certificate in Furniture (Retail and Wholesale) (Level 2) with an Optional Strand in Buying and Selling [Ref: 0437].  The last date for award of the National Certificate in Furniture Product Knowledge (Level 2) [Ref: 0476] is the end of December 2006.

Changes to structure and content

·      Elective A requirements increased by 15 credits;

·      balance of credits rule has been deleted;

·      the list of unit standards in Elective B has been amended;

·      unit standard domain, title, and/or credits have been updated where required;

·      an optional strand in Buying and Selling has been added to the qualification.

 

Transition

 

People currently enrolled in programmes leading to the award of versions 1, 2 or 3 of the National Certificate in Furniture (Retail and Wholesale) (Level 2) [Ref: 0437] may either complete those versions or transfer to version 4.

 

People who wish to transfer to version 4 of the qualification and who hold credit for unit standard 1305 or its replacement, unit standard 3501, will be exempted from 2 credits at level 2 needed to meet the elective requirements of version 4 of this qualification.  This is to avoid any disadvantage to trainees as a result of the Communication Skills unit standard review.

 

Any version of a unit standard contained within this qualification which retains its original unit standard identification number will continue to meet the requirements of this qualification.
