Review of Furniture qualifications

National Certificate in Furniture (Manufacturing Upholstery) [Ref: 0621]

National Certificate in Furniture (Restoration and Recovery Upholstery) (Level 4) [Ref: 0623]

 

The NZ Furniture Industry Training Organisation has completed the review of the qualifications listed above that were registered in May 1999.

A meeting was held on 19 February 2004 of the Upholstery Advisory Group to review the existing qualifications.  The current qualifications were no longer considered fit for purpose and feedback had been received from assessors and moderators on changes to the structure and content.  The review resulted in the current qualifications being restructured and new unit standards being developed.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

The levels and credits of the qualifications have been amended, and unit standards have been added to, and removed from the qualifications, as detailed below.

National Certificate in Furniture (Manufacturing Upholstery Cutting) (Level 3) [Ref: 0619]

 

Changes to structure and content

·        Title has been amended to include the level of the qualification

·        Level of qualification has increased from 1 to 3

·        Credit total has increased from 40 to 59

·        Total credits required from the elective section has decreased from 31 to 24

·        Removal of unit standard 2206 from the compulsory section

·        Unit standards 14348, 14349, and 14350 have been moved from the elective to the compulsory section

·        Removal of unit standard 16237 from the elective section

·        Unit standards 2192, 20974, and 20975 have been added to the elective section.

Changes to structure and content

·        Title has been amended to include the level of the qualification

·        Level of qualification has increased from 1 to 3

·        Credit total has increased from 40 to 67

·        Total credits required from the elective section has decreased from 31 to 12

·        Removal of unit standard 2206 from the compulsory section

·        Unit standards 14361, 14362, 14363, and 16238 have been moved from the elective to the compulsory section

·        Unit standards 20970 and 20971 have been added to the elective section.

National Certificate in Furniture (Manufacturing Upholstery) (Level 2) [Ref: 0621]

 

Changes to structure and content

·        Title has been amended to include the level of the qualification

·        Level of qualification has increased from 1 to 2

·        Credit total has increased from 40 to 63

·        Total credits required from the elective section has increased from 31 to 32 due to credit changes in some of the elective unit standards

·        Removal of unit standard 2206 from the compulsory section

·        Removal of unit standards 14365 and 14987 from the elective section

·        Unit standards 14348 and 14361 have been added to the compulsory section

·        Unit standards 2179, 2198, 9788, 14983, 16237, 20972, and 20973 have been added to the elective section.

 

National Certificate in Furniture (Restoration and Recovery Upholstery) (Level 4) [Ref: 0623]

 

Changes to structure and content

·        Credit total has increased from 120 to 158

·        Entry requirements for the qualification have changed to ‘open’

·        Removal of unit standard 2206 from the compulsory section

·        Unit standards 14348, 14349, and 14361 have been moved from the elective to the compulsory section

·        Removal of unit standard 14989 from the elective section

·        Unit standards 9788, 2198, 20972, and 20973 have been added to the elective section.

 

Transition Arrangements

 

All new trainees entering the furniture upholstery industry from 2005 will be entered into version 2 of the qualification.  People affected by the transition process will be contacted by NZ Furniture Industry Training Organisation and asked whether they wish to complete the version they are currently enrolled on or transfer to version 2.

 

All versions of the qualification are, and will continue to be, acceptable to the NZ Furniture Industry Training Organisation.

 

People who feel disadvantaged by the transition process should contact the NZ Furniture Industry Training Organisation.
