Replacement qualification

National Certificate in Poultry Husbandry (Level 3) with strands in Egg Production, Poultry Hatchery, and Poultry Rearing [Ref: 1177]

Date new versionpublished                                                                                July 2005

The review was carried out to update the qualifications following unit standard review, reflect name changes of industry sectors, and to determine the requirements of poultry hatchery operations in relation to the other poultry industry sectors.

Consultation was initially carried out in conjunction with unit standard review, through sector meetings with relevant stakeholders who were representative of the industry sectors relating to poultry hatcheries, poultry production, and poultry management.  Sector meetings were followed up by wider industry consultation by mail, email, and face-to-face meetings.  Feedback from moderation, and training providers was also sought and taken into account.

The qualification strands were renamed in line with industry sectors.  Further follow up with individual industry people and training providers was carried out as required to clarify and confirm changes.

The Agriculture Industry Training Organisation is now satisfied that the views of all stakeholders have been taken into consideration in the new qualification.  Feedback has confirmed that changes to, and demand for, the new qualification is justified, as the poultry industry continues to operate in a growing market, and demand for trained employees increases.

Main changes resulting from the review

The review process has resulted in the creation of the replacement National Certificate in Poultry Husbandry (Level 3) with strands in Egg Production, Poultry Hatchery, and Poultry Rearing [Ref: 1177].  The structure and content of the replaced qualifications has been used as the basis of the new qualification.

National Certificate in Poultry Hatchery (Operations) [Ref: 0329]

·      The qualification has been replaced by the Poultry Hatchery strand of the new National Certificate in Poultry Husbandry (Level 3) with strands in Egg Production, Poultry Hatchery, and Poultry Rearing [Ref: 1177].

National Certificate in Poultry Husbandry with strands in Breeding Operations, Table Egg Production, and Poultry Meat Production [Ref: 0330]

·      The qualification has been replaced by the new National Certificate in Poultry Husbandry (Level 3) with strands in Egg Production, Poultry Hatchery, and Poultry Rearing [Ref: 1177].

·      Strand names in the replacement qualification reflect current terminology for industry sectors – Poultry Rearing rather than Breeding Operations, and Egg Production rather than Table Egg Production.

·      A Poultry Meat Production strand has not been included in the replacement qualification as this is no longer a requirement by industry, however unit standards from the strand have been included.
